SPX Bolting Systems provides torque solution

The ?rst SPXFLOW Bolting Systems TWHC50 (High Cycle Torque Wrench) was delivered within Europe late 2014. The tool will be used in a Zinc Mining facility in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan providing a torque solution for bolts on a 1980s East German mineral sizer.

“With Thaelmann Schwermaschbau, the machine's manufacturer, long out of business, companies owning their machinery were left with no way of tightening the bolts on their machines to an adequate torque," said Konrad Werpachowski, SPXFLOW Territory Manager for Eastern Europe and Russia.

However the TWCH50 wrench means the owner of the mineral sizer can now torque tighten the M145 bolts accurately, with up to 70 000 Nm of torque available, so releasing the bolts can also be comfortably performed. The company also plans to use the tool in April/May when a section of their mine will be closed to allow the crew to overhaul the company's Sandvik rock crushing units.

SPXFLOW Bolting Systems' distributor in Russia, OOO Sovremennye Technologie, is training and supporting the client in regard to the tooling to ensure controlled bolting practises are carried out.

The wrench has multiple applications and similar smaller tools have been used during the overhaul of one of the largest presses in the world, owned by the manufacturers of titanium components for the aerospace industry.

“In a similar scenario to the mineral sizer in Kazakhstan the 1960s press has a very dated Soviet designed tensioner and the manufacturers needed a solution before the tool failed," said Werpachowski.

Along with heavy industry machines, the torque wrench can be applied to a variety of devices across a range of industries, refineries, power generation, steel production, mining or cement plants.

The TWCH50 is the biggest square drive wrench in SPXFLOW S range, and since its launch last year has generated international interest from distributors throughout Eastern Europe, and around the world.
