Vostochnaya Mining Co. plans to strengthen control over the quality of mining operations in the field of industrial safety at the Solntsevsky coal mine. From now on, mining foremen will carry out daily inspections using mobile devices designed to improve the safety of mining operations.

During the production shift, the mining foreman performs control bypasses of rock dumps in order to record compliance with mandatory rules and regulations of industrial safety. A detailed and step-by-step analysis of each object according to a number of stringent criteria guarantees the safest possible mining process for stripping and coal mining. These criteria were formed on the basis of the ‘Safety Rules for the Development of Coal Deposits by Open Method’ and design documentation.

In order to optimise the work process and improve the quality of control at the production facility, mining foremen began to use special mobile devices with the ARMA software package.

A programme with a list of parameters for assessing rock dumps for compliance with industrial safety standards and criteria is introduced into the device, which outwardly does not differ in any way from a mobile phone. The list of parameters for inspection is set in the software interface. The mining foreman fixes each item for its compliance, scanning NFC tags to confirm the presence in this area at the time of the control inspection. For example, the technician assesses the potential for reduced visibility and adequate lighting on the blade in the unloading area. If problems are identified, specialists are sent to the site to eliminate it. Prompt response to the identified situation increases the safety of vehicle movement and prevents the risk of an accident. The programme monitors the availability of the necessary fences.

All information from a mobile device is generated in a specialised reporting form, which includes a specific list of data based on the results of monthly inspections by mining foremen, including photographic recording of areas. Then it goes to a special web service, access to which is available to the head of the site and specialists of the labour protection and industrial safety service. The mining foreman takes into account the received reporting data for the previous shift when forming the bypass plan for the current day.

“Dumping is a very important process. Compliance with the technology of formation of dumps directly affects their further stability. We conduct every shift to ensure compliance with all security measures. Our goal is to prevent the risk of any possible violations,” commented Alexey Sharabarin, Director of the Solntsevsky coal mine.
