Coal preparation is the lead feature in the September issue of World Coal, but we also look at highwall mining and include a special feature on recruitment, an issue that continues to challenges the industry. Meanwhile our regional review examines the Southeast Asian coal industry.
World Coal - August 2009
The August issue of World Coal focusses on a subject currently preoccupying the industry: clean coal. We look at the cases for pre- and post-combustion capture of CO2, as well as CTL, boiler optimisation and mercury emissions reduction. Elsewhere, the regional review examines the South African coal industry, and the spotlight feature looks at coal analysers.

On this month's cover: A fleet of Liebherr T 282 B mining trucks has been operating at a mine in Indonesia since 2005, displaying consistent reliability and minimal downtime with an overall availability averaging 92%. The T 282 B trucks require less maintenance due to their AC drive system, which minimises downtime and ensures consistent operating performance over conventional DC and mechanical drive trucks. The trucks are also equipped with the powerful MTU DD 20V4000 (2722 kW), providing one of the best power-to-weight ratios available in the mining truck market today.

On this month's cover: Joy’s new shearer has broken the 10 million mark in China. Starting in April 2008 until the end of March 2009, Shenhua Energy’s Joy shearer had mined 10,269,915 t (11.3 million short t). This model of shearer, the 7LS7, is the first one of its kind to be designed and manufactured by Joy Mining Machinery. It is the largest and most powerful longwall shearer that went into production at one of the world’s largest coal mining complexes, Shenhua Energy Co. Ltd’s Shendong Coal Branch operation, Shang Wan Mine.
