VGK implements digital security system

The Eastern Mining Co. pays great attention to the security system at its production assets, including at the digital level. In order to control the loading and unloading operations on the territory of the Solntsevsky coal mine and the Shakhtersk coal seaport, a pilot project is being implemented to implement a programme, one of the key stages of which is collision avoidance.

The pilot project will include equipment whose work is carried out in closer cooperation with other participants in the production process, which increases the risk of emergencies. Further, the fleet of industrial and mining equipment equipped with a collision avoidance system will be expanded.

In the event of a potentially dangerous approach of equipment, the collision avoidance system, which includes a control unit, sensors, a monitor, a video camera, a radar and a device for generating a sound signal, informs the driver about obstacles in the path of movement with a sound signal. The signalling intensity increases as workers approach the obstacle. Installed video cameras display approaching objects on the monitor, allowing the operator to take the necessary measures in advance. The system has an increased obstacle detection area up to 20 m.

The digital safety system is designed to monitor the actions of the driver and operator in order to prevent collisions and accidents at work. The project is being implemented within the framework of the digitalisation programme for the enterprises of the Eastern Mining Co.
