Toshiba wins coal plant contract

Toshiba Plant Systems & Services Corporation has been awarded a contract from Mitsubishi Corporation for the construction of a new coal-fired power plant in Balingasag, on Mindanao Island in the Philippines.

The new plant will be operated by MINERGY Coal Corporation and will use circulating fluidized bed boilers and have three 55MW steam turbine generators, with a total capacity of 165MW.

Toshiba and Mitsubishi will jointly serve as EPC contractor for two of the three generators, and as such will be responsible for plant’s design and engineering; the procurement and installation of major equipment, including boilers, steam turbines, and generators; and the balance of plant equipment, covering ancillary facilities such as coal conveying equipment, mechanical and electrical equipment and instrumentation; testing, trial operation and commissioning.

Construction is scheduled to begin this month and the two units are expected to be completed by the end of January 2017 and March 2017, respectively.
