The US Senate has confirmed two new Commissioners, Mark Christie and Allison Clements, to serve on the five-member Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). America’s Power issued the following statement by Michelle Bloodworth, President and CEO:

“We congratulate Mark Christie and Allison Clements on their confirmation to fill the two remaining vacancies at FERC,” said Bloodworth.

“FERC has become an increasingly important policymaker for the nation’s coal fleet, which helps maintain grid reliability and resilience. Having two new Commissioners with considerable expertise should enable the Commission to ensure the nation’s electricity supply is both reliable and resilient. We have been urging FERC to take basic steps that would lead to better protection for the electricity grid in the event of disturbances that could have extreme consequences. Recently, many California ratepayers were forced to deal with rolling blackouts and other emergency conservation measures. We are optimistic that newly-confirmed Commissioners Christie and Clements will join with their fellow commissioners to prevent this kind of problem in other parts of the country,” continued Bloodworth.
