Bettercoal publishes new recognition methodology and process

Bettercoal has published its newly developed methodology for the recognition of other standards.

The methodology outlines the process which Bettercoal will follow to review and determine whether it recognises other standards.

This work was prompted by an acknowledgement that companies are facing an emerging number of standards and frameworks requiring their attention and compliance across the areas of Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG). This direction of travel is a positive step towards improved supply chain performance and behaviour, and thus requires dedicated commitment and focus.

Katie Warrick, Executive Director, stated:

“As the standards landscape continues to evolve, it is important to us to explore whether there are opportunities for us to recognise other initiatives that are also driving meaningful change. Throughout this process, we will ensure our assurance processes and comprehensive standard, the Bettercoal Code 2.0, continue to be robust and maintain their rigour.

“With over a decade of experience running a coal standard, we have continued to evolve and build on our experience, collaborating wherever possible. This framework represents the next step in that journey, and we will explore where there are opportunities to recognise and be recognised by other initiatives, encouraging the adoption of existing systems and overall working towards a global responsible coal supply chain.”
