World Coal,
Vostochnaya Mining Co. has started wind monitoring in the Uglegorsk District of the Sakhalin Region. The project is being implemented as part of the construction of the most powerful wind farm in the Far East.
The wind farm will include 16 turbines with a total capacity of 67.2 MW.
The wind metring complex is installed at one of two potential wind farm construction sites for survey work to assess wind energy resources. The complex is a meteorological mast 99 m high with meteorological sensors and auxiliary equipment installed on it. Modern technologies used in its creation guarantee complete autonomy and safety for the environment.
Wind monitoring is necessary to accurately determine the wind energy potential, select the type and parameters of generating equipment and its optimal placement. The survey period for collecting and analysing data will be 12 months. Based on the obtained data of meteorological observations, a plan for the implementation of the project for the construction of a wind farm will be formed.
The uniqueness of the project lies in the fact that the wind farm is being built for the needs of the VGK to provide power supply to the key production facilities of the company: the Solntsevsky coal mine, the coal seaport of Shakhtersk, the main coal conveyor.
The wind farm in the Uglegorsk region is part of the Green Coal Cluster project. According to preliminary calculations, the implementation of the project will reduce the carbon footprint by 64 000 t of conventional carbon fuel and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 125 000 tpy.
