World Coal,

The seaport of Shakhtersk, one of the key assets of the Eastern Mining Co, has risen from 9th to 8th place in the rating of ports in terms of cargo turnover for the period from January to August 2020, according to the data of the Association of Commercial Sea Ports of the Russian Federation, prepared for TASS.

At the end of 8 months of 2020, the seaport of Shakhtersk shipped 6.8 million t of coal, which is 841 t or 14% more than in the same period in 2019. The increase in the volume of coal shipment through the port of Shakhtersk occurs annually. This is influenced by the implementation of investment programs for the technical re-equipment of the onshore and offshore facilities of the enterprise. A significant event for the development of the port was the assignment of the status of a resident of the Free Port of Vladivostok to the Uglegorsk District. Thanks to this, Vostochnaya Mining Co. is implementing a number of projects aimed at developing the economy of the region of presence. All this also affects the increase in the throughput of the port of Shakhtersk and allows increasing the volume of coal transhipment.

Today, the main infrastructure of the Shakhtersk Coal Seaport is spacious storage facilities, a modern onshore transhipment complex with a capacity of 10 000 tph, a fleet of 25 ships and 2 floating transhipment complexes with a total of 80 000 DWT with a total loading speed of 6000 tph.

In total, the volume of coal shipped at the port of Shakhtersk increased from 1.2 million t in 2013 to 8.8 million t in 2019. By the end of 2020, it is planned to increase the figure to 10.6 million t. In the future, the company plans to reach a shipment volume of 20 million tpy.
