Australia approves rail line for Adani coal mines
Adani Mining has announced that the Australian government has approved construction of a rail line that will connect Adani’s coal mines to Abbot Point. The collieries are part of its AU$ 2.2 billion development project in Queensland.
The Australian unit of Adani Enterprises needed governmental approval to proceed with the 300 km line, after gaining clearance last month from Queensland state.
The North Galilee Basin Rail project is being designed to connect collieries owned by Adani Mining, as well as possible other developers in the region, to the east coast port at Abbot Point.
Commenting on the news, CEO Jeyakumar Janakaraj told Reuters: “Today’s approval is a significant milestone in the life of our integrated mine, rail and port project, helping transition from approvals to the build phase.”
