Solntsevsky coal mine increased production volume

World Coal,

The Solntsevsky coal mine in Russia, a key coal mining asset of the Eastern Mining Co., increased its coal production by 33% in 1H20 compared to the same period last year. The production indicator exceeded 5 million t. During the same period last year, 3.8 million t were produced.

Ivan Podgornykh, Deputy Director for production at the Solntsevsky coal mine, commented: “The increase in production volumes became possible thanks to the programme for the modernisation of mining equipment, as well as through the introduction of digitalisation. Vostochnaya Mining Co. annually invests in the development of the Solntsevsky coal mine. This made it possible to increase production capacity and achieve higher coal production rates.”

During the implementation of the investment programme from January - June 2020, the company significantly renewed and expanded its fleet of specialised vehicles. 21 units of modern high-performance mining transport equipment were put into operation: 4 excavators, 3 bulldozers and 14 BelAZ trucks.

Also, as part of the implementation of the digitalisation programme at the Solntsevsky coal mine, it was possible to achieve a reduction in routine downtime and an increase in the load of specialised equipment. Due to the introduction of an automated monitoring and control system, the use of transport capacities has grown by almost 10%.

The coal seaport of Shakhtersk in 1H20 shipped more than 3.5 million t of coal, which is 520 t more than the volume for the same period in 2019. Igor Lastochkin, Deputy General Director for Export, added: “The difficult economic situation in the market caused by the pandemic and the subsequent decrease in coal consumption did not have a significant impact on the results of 1H20. We were able to increase the shipping plan from January - June by almost 200 000 t. However, given the slowdown in economic growth in the main coal-consuming countries, we can forecast a decline in volumes in 2H20. We are now faced with the most important task of developing and implementing measures to maintain a stable position in the market. "
