The coal seaport of Shakhtersk, a key logistics asset of the Eastern Mining Company, has updated its production record for monthly shipments. At the end of June 2021, the company shipped 1.9 million t of coal to ships, which is 7% higher than the previous record in August 2020.

The new achievement became the third record this year. On 20 June 2021, the coal seaport of Shakhtersk shipped a record daily volume of coal over 100 thousand t. In addition, in April, the enterprise for the first time in Russia, the company carried out a record one-time shipment of coal in the volume of 188 119 t.

The increase in the volume of monthly shipments is the result of the systematic work of previous years to increase the port's capacity and expand the fleet. In particular, the network of belt conveyors was lengthened, two ship-loading machines were installed at the berth. In 2020, the capacity of warehouse space increased to 3.3 million t. The port's throughput capacity has also increased due to the appearance in the fleet of two new self-propelled barges with a total deadweight of 15 000 DWT.

“All our victories and achievements are the merit of the team, which always strives for more. We will not stop there. Every year the coal seaport of Shakhtersk increases its cargo turnover. The company has a large project ahead for the reconstruction of the port and coal conveyor, which will allow increasing the port's throughput capacity to 20 million t by 2025. Now this figure is at the level of 12 million t,” said Alexey Tkachenko, Executive Director of the Shakhtersk Coal Seaport.

The large-scale modernisation of the Shakhtersk Coal Seaport provides for an increase in the storage volume of the warehouse and the installation of modern technological lines with stacker-reclaimers. At the same time, it is necessary to install a new transport conveyor system with a shelter, as well as a dust suppression system in the process of forming stacks using mobile units. This will reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the environment. The port modernisation project is scheduled to be completed by 2022.
