The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) has welcomed the appointment of a dedicated Shadow Minister for Queensland Resources in Queensland Senator Murray Watt.

“Senator Watt’s appointment is recognition of the nationally significant contribution of the Queensland resources sector and the 420 000 Queensland men and women who work in it or because of it,” said QRC Chief Executive, Ian Macfarlane.

“With Queensland a resource powerhouse state, it makes sense to appoint a Queenslander to this role.

“QRC as the representative for the state’s coal, mineral and gas producers, explorers and associated suppliers, is proud of the AUS$82 billion the sector contributes to the Queensland economy, particularly as we respond to and recover from COVID-19,” he said.

“We also welcome the federal Opposition’s appointment of Madeline King as Shadow Minister for Resources.

“Being based in Western Australia, the Shadow Minister is a strong supporter of the resources sector and we look forward to working with her to advance our industry.”
