Silobau Thorwesten supplies silo to large-scale power plant rebuild

Published by , Editor
World Coal,

Silobau Thorwesten, Beckum, Germany, has been awarded several portions of the tender for a rebuilding project of a large-scale power plant in Cottbus. The core piece of the order is an ATEX-conform large-capacity silo, which includes control for the storage of up to 1.430 m³ pulverised lignite.

The silo has a diameter of 9 m, a height of 40.5 m and it is 2 bar pressure shock resistant. It has an additional filter and explosion doors that contribute to the safe storage of the easily inflammatory material. Explosion protection and explosion suppression equipment for the silo is based on the expertise of Silobau Thorwesten’s sister company Thorwesten Vent, which has been successful in this area for years.

Furthermore, the delivery includes pneumatic fuel transport into the silo and an affiliated discharging station for trucks.

Appropriate to the danger while dealing with highly inflammatory pulverised lignite, the discharging station, too, is equipped with gas analysis equipment for smouldering fire detection, including an inert gas station for immediate smothering of such smouldering fires. In compliance with the strongest safety standards, a truck laden with fuel can be discharged completely within 30 minutes at the most.

Amongst other things, the new large-capacity silo is equipped with the latest explosion doors by Thorwesten Vent.
