MINExpo 2016: Hitachi highlights AC truck drive system

The Hitachi Advanced AC drive system is “perfectly marched for Hitachi trucks,” said Craig Lamarque, Division Manage of Hitachi Construction Machinery.

“The entire Hitachi AC drive system is designed, built and supported by the same company – Hitachi. It’s Hitachi to the core,” Lamarque continued. “As a result, the system delivers higher torque, faster acceleration, smoother retardation and lower operating costs.”

The AC drive system includes Hitachi’s insulated gate bipolar transistor inverter, alternator and wheel motors.

Other key features include a slip/slide control system to reduce tyre slippage during acceleration and tyre lock-up during braking; a pitch control feature to reduce bouncing/rebounding of the truck when it travels over uneven ground; a side skid control feature that helps the operator to turn the truck in slippery road condition; and a duel path epicyclical planetary design wheel motor to that provides high efficiency and low maintenance.

“The Hitachi AC-Drive system results in haul trucks that are more valuable assets for mining operations,” concluded Lamarque. “The system delivers better performance, higher uptime and helps reduce maintenance and fuel costs.”
