Savon Voima, a producer of electricity and district heating and electricity transmission services, and KPA Unicon, a specialist in offering customised and modularised boiler plant projects, are set to invest in energy efficiency at the Pieksämäki power plant in Finland. Both companies have signed a contract of a flue gas scrubber delivery to the plant, which could significantly increase the efficiency of energy production.
The contract includes a 625 MWh flue gas scrubber and heat recovery systems, construction work as well as electricity and automation installations. This modification aims to strengthen environmental safety, while ensuring that the heat distribution works during winter time and cold weather.
As well as improving energy efficiency of district heat production, the carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide emissions will be reduced by over 10%. The flue gas recovered from this new 625 MWh flue gas scrubber will meet the heat requirements of 100 apartment houses.
”Our target in the district heat production is to reach a nearly 100% utilisation rate of domestic fuels. This new investment reduces the use of oil in energy production. For our customers, the investment will be reflected in steady production costs, which, in turn, means steady price trends," stated Maija Henell, Business Director of Savon Voima.
