Toshiba supplying equipment for Indonesian coal plant expansion

Published by , Editor
World Coal,

Plant owners and the operator, PT. Cirebon Energi Prasarana (CEPR) of Cirebon coal-fired thermal power plant in Indonesia awarded a letter to Toshiba, with Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd and Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., a member of an EPC consortium, confirming the selection of Toshiba Corp. to supply equipment for the expansion of the plant.

Toshiba has confirmed it will supply a 1000 MW ultra-super-critical steam turbine and generator (STG) as well as other equipment, including plant control equipment for the expansion of the Indonesian plant.

Toshiba’s STG is in the world’s largest output class and achieves the highest energy efficiency currently available.

Toshiba was selected to provide the 1000 MW ultra-super-critical STG on the strength of the successful performance of the company’s power generation equipment in Indonesia and its history of supplying ultra-super critical thermal plant equipment globally. The company has supplied plant equipment to various plants, including the Gresik Thermal Power Plant in 1981 to Tanjung Jati B Thermal Power Plant in 2012.

The company has indicated it is capable of providing diversified energy solutions and reliable state-of-the-art technology that can contribute to energy stability and security. This is important since expanding economics and growing energy demand are making electricity supply capacity in Indonesia difficult. The government is therefore promoting efforts that will help meet the current demand and potential increases in the future.

The Cirebon plant, in West Java Province, was commissioned in July 2012 and is operated by PT Cirebon Electric Power. The expansion project is being managed by CEPR, a special purpose company established through a joint ownership of five companies Marubeni, PT. Indika Energy Energy Tbk, Korean Samtan Co. Ltd., Korea Midland Power Co. Ltd. and Chubu Electric Power Co. Inc. These company will also construct and operate the plant.

Commercial operation is scheduled in 2020. Once operational, it will be the largest coal-fired ultra-super critical thermal power plant in Indonesia.

Toshiba will continue to provide the highest levels of power generation efficiency through industry-leading thermal power technologies for ultra-super critical coal-fired power plants and gas turbine-combined cycle plants, and has indicated it will actively engage in construction of environmentally friendly power plants.
