US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt is expected to sign a proposal to repeal the Obama Administration’s Clean Power Plan.
In response to this, the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE) has commended EPA for taking this action and issued the following statement by Paul Bailey, President and CEO.
“The Clean Power Plan is the poster child for bad regulation. It is illegal, expensive and ineffective, and we commend Administrator Pruitt for repealing it,” said Bailey. “In addition, the Clean Power Plan would have caused the retirement of more coal-fuelled power plants, which are needed to maintain a secure and resilient electricity grid. We look forward to working with EPA and other stakeholders to ensure that this sensible repeal is finalised quickly.”
Twenty-seven states as well as other parties sought judicial review of the CPP in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. Subsequently, the US Supreme Court stayed implementation of the rule pending judicial review.
