Cockatoo Coal has begun work on the haul road upgrades required to boost production at Baralaba coal mine over 1 million t.
According to its latest quarterly report, construction commenced on a new bridge over Banana Creek in September – the first of three major works packages associated with the haul route upgrades. The work is expected to be completed before the end of December 2016.
Work on the remaining construction packages was expected to begin in early 4Q16. This includes completed the Dawson Highway overpass to link the haul route to the company’s new rail load-out facility, sealing 13 km of unsealed roads, as well as widening roads in various places, and upgrading key intersections and reconstructing certain bends.
The Baralaba mine remains on care and maintenance with activities confined to environmental and regulatory compliance processes. Restart of production is expected in 2Q17 with Cockatoo currently working through its detailed operational scheduling and planning in preparation of the restart.
