The NSW Government of US$50 million in additional funding for the Resources for Regions programme will be welcomed by mining communities across the State and shows the Government is listening to councils in mining regions on the need for more support for local infrastructure improvements.

“Resources for Regions is an important initiative that provides welcome funding to regional mining communities that contribute so much to the NSW economy. The NSW Minerals Council is a strong supporter of the programme and we welcome the additional US$50 million in funding announced today,” NSW Minerals Council CEO, Stephen Galilee said today.

"This US$50 million is a positive step for regional NSW, and we’ll be encouraging local councils in mining communities to apply for infrastructure investment from this new funding.”

“While the funding is welcome, local councils in mining communities have repeatedly told us that the funding model used for Resources for Regions creates uncertainty around infrastructure planning because the level of funding available changes from year to year,” Mr Galilee said.

“On behalf of mining communities we've asked the Government to commit at least US$60 million per year to the Resources for Regions programme to provide certainty for mining communities across NSW,” he said.
