Irwin acquires rock duster manufacturer

World Coal,

Irwin Mine and Tunneling Supply, a subsidiary of Irwin Car and Equipment, has acquired TDT, the manufacturer of portable rock dusters and belt clamps, based in Mount Hope, Western Virginia.

Portable rock dusters and belt clamps are used in a wide range of mining applications. TDT’s spot dusting and re-dusting equipment complements Irwin’s line of bulk rock dusters that can be customized to the specifications of mine operators. All production will take place at Irwin’s Blairsville facility in Pennsylvania, which totals more than 50 000 ft2.

Rock dusting needs
William Baker, president and CEO of Irwin Car and Equipment, commented: “This acquisition gives us the ability to be a single-source supplier for all of our customers’ rock dusting needs. By expanding our product line, we’re making it easier than ever for customers to engage in best practices and enhance employee safety.”

The spot dusters and re-dusters can be skid-mounted or equipped with rubber tires. They feature hoppers that can accommodate loads of up to 4000 lbs, and can dust up to 500 ft from the duster through a 2 in. hose. A direct-driven auger transfer provides a continual dust flow at 50-90 lbs./hour for maximum efficiency.

The TDT belt clamps manufactured by Irwin will have a 3000 lb. pull rating and may be used on belts up to 8-in. thick. Depending upon the model, the belt clamp features a 3 or 8-in. chain or cable and can be pulled across top rollers.
