World Coal,
An employee of a fuel service contractor has been killed at Alpha Natural Resources’ (ANR) Republic Energy coal mine in West Virginia, according to a company press release.
The worker was employed by Rogers Petroleum and was hauling a load of diesel fuel when his truck overturned on a mine haul road.
There were no eyewitnesses to the accident, said the company, and it is unknown whether the death is mining related or due to natural causes.
Republic Energy is working with state and federal agencies to complete the investigation into the accident. It is the second death at a West Virginia coal mine in as many weeks and the third in the US.
Last week one miner was killed at Murray Energy’s Marshall County coal mine, while a worker was killed yesterday at ANR’s Deep Mine 14 in Virginia.
