World Coal,
Voith has recently manufactured its 1000th TPKL fluid coupling. This coupling will go to the DaTong Coal Mining Group in China.
The DaTong mine already has experience with Voith fluid couplings, resulting in the decision to use them in the main belt conveyor of a new coal mine. The order comprises four TPKL fluid couplings for use in a 6.4 MW belt conveyor drive. The underground conveyor is 3160 m long and is drive by four 1600 kW motors. It has a planned capacity of 4000 tph and will transport coal uphill at a 14° angle.
“We are very happy to use couplings from Voith running in our belt conveyors,” said the Manager of the Mechanical and Electrical Department at DaTong. “The soft start characteristic, very high reliability and good after sales service of these couplings provide guarantee to our normal safely production in our mines.”
Designed for the demanding belt conveyor applications in mining, production of the TPKL coupling series started in 1997. The fluid coupling provides excellent torque limitation for a smooth start-up of the belt conveyor, as well as active load sharing with multi-motor drives. Its standstill cooling function means it can handle the most difficult start-ups multiple times in succession.
DaTong Coal Mining Group Co. is located in DaTong City in Shanxi Province, China. It is one of the top three coal groups in China with a coal production capacity of 152 million tpy. The coal group operates a large number of coal mines across the country. Many of them use Voith fluid couplings in diverse underground applications like armoured face conveyors, belt conveyors, stage loaders and crushers.
