Wescoal Mining increases production by 39%

South Africa’s Wescoal Mining produced 895 185 t of coal in the six months ending September 30, 2013, an increase of 39% from the same period in 2012.

Wescoal attributed the rise to the start up of the open cast Intibane Colliery, located near Ogies in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province, to fully operational status. The company added that it was confident current production volumes could be maintained over the next six months.

In H1 of the current financial year, Wescoal’s trading division sold 217 831 t of coal, falling 13% year-on-year.

Wescoal operates two mines in the Mpumalanga province, Intibane and Khanyisa collieries. It also owns the Elandspruit Colliery in the region, which has a projected mine life of between 12 and 15 years, and an estimated coal reserve of 27 million t.
