Guildford Coal is on track to achieve its production target of 125 000 tpm from its Baruun Noyon Uul (BNU) metallurgical coal mine in Mongolia, according to a recent company update. The company mined 72 138 t of coal in September 2015 and expects to reach production of 125 589 t in December.

The production ramp up has been achieved with zero lost time injuries and environmental incidents, said the company. BNU operations have not reached 1.34 million man hours with out a lost time incident.

Guildford forecasts a direct cash cost positive margin on its hard coking coal product of between US$9/t and US$11/t for 4Q15, despite current weakness in metallurgical coal markets.

“While the market continued to remain soft there are some positive signs and there is still strong buyer interest for the BNU coking coal,” said the company. “Guildford remains committed to developing its Mongolian business in the most capital and cost efficient methods.”
