Clarence coal mine overflow

At the Clarence coal mine, an incident occurred involving the overflow of material from a holding cell in the reject emplacement area. All relevant agencies were notified.

Centennial Coal is taking the incident seriously and is fully complying with the EPA’s ‘Clean Up Notice’ to ensure an efficient clean up. The clean up is expected to take a substantial amount of time due to difficult terrain in which the material has been deposited. Sediment fences have been put in place between the mine site and the Wollangambe River to avoid further impact. The holding cell wall has bee repaired and further clean up actions are underway.

The company has indicated its main priority is to reduce any impact to the environment.

The cause of the incidence is currently being investigated.
