Efficiency gains at SUEK’s Apsatsky opencast mine ensure coal reserves

The Atlas Copco FlexiROC D60 is designed to drill wells - this is the preparatory stage for blasting operations required for coal mining. The commissioning of this additional equipment increases the efficiency of overburden excavation, which raises ore processing volumes and, consequently, the mine’s coal production.
Manufactured in Sweden, the FlexiROC D60 is well suited to increase production volumes. It is capable of drilling wells in multiple environments, even the hardest rock, while maintaining high utilisation rates. The rig is equipped with a powerful turbo-charged diesel engine, dust suppression system, and fuel and water tanks, and can handle a vast number of drilling angles, ranging from vertical and inclined to horizontal. Providing both comfort and safety, the operator cabin is equipped with an ergonomic adjustable armchair, air conditioning and an automatic fire extinguisher. The status and settings are displayed on the multifunction display and a convenient joystick controls the rig.
"Such equipment, although not as powerful, is already in use at the Apsatsky open pit," said Dmitry Dulin, the site’s chief engineer, "and has proven itself in rocky terrain. In addition to other technical advantages, such machines do not require large working spaces, which is crucial when working mountain slopes."
The Apsatsky opencast mine is developing the second largest coking coal deposit in Russia in Kalarsky, the northernmost region of the Zabaikalye region. This is only place in the country where "black gold" is extracted by open pit mining. The Apsatsky deposit contains 2.2 billion t of coal reserves in all grades required by Russian and global chemical and metallurgical industries. The development of the deposit is an important regional investment project for the Zabaikalye region.
SUEK pays special attention to the development of the site, equipping it with the most advanced high-performance equipment. In the last six months alone, four significant units were commissioned: two 130 t BelAZ-75131 dump trucks and two Generac DF-20000 dust suppression units for use during the processing and loading of coal in railcars.
