World Coal,
Despite only launching in June, Liebherr’s SmartGrip solution for optimised grab filling rates has been installed on several cranes around the world, including at Port Pólnocny LPS 600 cranes. SmartGrip controls the filling of the grab to suit the load curve of the crane, assisting the operator in avoiding overloading.
Two LPS 600s equipped with Liebherr’s Pactronic hybrid power booster system went into operation at the Polish port in 2013. Following the installation of SmartGrip, the first cycles have already demonstrated the capabilities of intelligent grabbing, Liebherr said in a press release.
“In our efforts to increase productivity, the installation of SmartGrip was a logical decision,” said Adam Luczak, bulk terminal manage at the port. Our crane drivers are delighted with the new system, which ensures that we do not waste turnover caused by bad or volatile grab filling rates.”
Part of the port of Gdansk, Pólnocny handles coal and other bulk materials, as well as oil and containers.
