Sharyn Gol commissions coal wash plant

Sharyn Gol has announced the completed commission of its new coal wash plant, situated next to the company’s coal mine in Sharyn Gol city, Darkhan province, Mongolia. It is the second coal wash plant to be located in Mongolia.

The plant has capacity to was 600 000 tpy of raw coal and enables the company to produce an export grade coal in addition to premium coal product for the domestic industrial market, making it the only coal wash plant with the potential to supply the domestic market.

Sharyn Gol's Chairman, Batmunkh B., stated: "We are delighted that Sharyn Gol's team has succeeded in beginning coal washing operations. This investment by Sharyn Gol is consistent with the Mongolian government's policy of encouraging Mongolian mining companies to invest in mineral processing technology. The wash plant opens a new chapter in the history of Sharyn Gol, which is celebrating its 50th year of operations."

Additionally, Sharyn Gol has announce it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Mongol Sammok Logistics LLC – a joint venture between the Mongolian state and Sammok Shipping Co. of South Korea. Under the terms of agreement, both parties have agreed to cooperate to export Sharyn Gol’s washed coal to South Korea.

The coal will be transported through Russia via rail to Rajin port in the Rason Free Economic Zone, North Korea. From here it will be loaded onto a vessel and delivered to South Korea. It is planned that the trial shipment will be 25 000 t and, after this completion, the export operations will increase.
