Dry bulk handling at Port of Rotterdam fell by 3.1% in the first nine months of 2015 compared to the same period in 2014 as good European grain harvests reduced demand for grain imports. German steel production also remained flat, reducing demand for iron ore imports.

Agribulk handling fell by 11.7% over the nine months to September 2015, while handling or ores and scrap fell by 2%. Coal handling remained at the same level as 2014.

“Dry bulk is usually a fairly stable industry, but currently the handling of iron ore and agribulk is lagging behind somewhat,” said Allard Castelein, CEO Port of Rotterdam Authority.
