Russian coal export company sets completion date for terminal

Construction work at the JSC Vostochny Port’s dedicated coal terminal is underway and progressing to schedule, according to the company. This has allowed a completion date for phase 3 of the project be set for H2 2016.

JSC Vostochny handles the largest amount of export coal in Russia. The company mostly handles coal mined in Kuzbass region. The commodity exports account for 98.5% of total cargo volumes of the terminal operator. Less than 1.5% is coal shipped by coasting dry bulk carriers, and just 0.01% accounts for other cargoes.

Once phase 3 of the facility is commissioned, conveyors at the new terminal will be connected to existing lines of the PPK-3 coal handling terminal. This will form a unified system of conveyors. The simultaneous coal storage capacity will be increased from the current 600 t to 1.6 million t.

High-tech will enable Vostochny Port to simultaneously load coal onto three Capesize dry bulk carriers (150,000 DWT each) with a loading speed of up to 3 tph.

Shipments of export coal from the Vostochny Port will increase from the current 17 million tpa to 30 million tpa, including 20 million tpa supplied by CarboOne, the largest exporter of Russia's high-quality thermal and metallurgical coal. 

The Vostochny Port assets include two transshipment complexes. The first is specialised coal terminal using the conveyor equipment system and a yard for unloading coal laden cars. Automation level here nears 98.9%. The facility capacity is 14.2 million tpa. The second facility is the Universal Handling Terminal. This facility has a capacity of 3 million tpa and specialises in handling clamshell coal.
