Russian coal terminal will create 700 jobs
The bulk terminal currently under construction at Sukhodol Bay in Russia’s Primorsk Territory has the potential to significantly improve social infrastructure and employments levels in the region, according to the Primorsk Territory Government.
The government said that the port, which has a 20 million tpa capacity and will be used to export coal to Russia’s Asia-Pacific markets, will generate 700 jobs and facilitate the development of social infrastructure.
According to some sources, the new terminal could also help contribute to solving the problem of insufficient port capacity – an urgent issue for Russian coal producers.
Coal supplies in Russia’s far east are currently under intense development with exports booming. The ports in the area are said to account for some 40% of all coal exports nationwide.
In early February, Russia’s Volga Group acquired a 50% stake in Sukhodol LLC – the company currently constructing the new bulk terminal.
Volga said that construction of the first stage of the terminal is expected to be completed by 2016. The second and third stages are scheduled to take place between 2019 and 2021.
