Rhenus Midgard terminal handles record coal volumes

World Coal,

The Rhenus Bulk Terminal Wilhelmshaven (BTW) handled over half a million tonnes of coal in July.

The terminal handles 557,319 tonnes, the highest figure for one month at the long-standing bulk handling centre. Rhenus Midgard expanded the business site between 2009 and 2013, in order for the terminal to handle larger volumes.

The bulk carrier ‘Lord Star’ was the last vessel handled at the BTW in July, helping increase the terminal’s record for one month to more than half a million tonnes of coal. The coal unloaded from the PanMax class bulk carrier, came from Russia.

Comments

“We set ourselves ambitious targets for our monthly and annual figures after expanding our terminal. The 557,319 tonnes, which were handled in July, show that we’re on the right path,” commented Matthias Schrell, Managing Director of Rhenus Midgard in Wilhelmshaven.

The terminal unloaded over three million tonnes for the first time in 2013. “At the moment, it looks as if we’ll be able to increase our end-of-year results in 2014 once again,” added Schrell.
