Weather curbs Wesfarmers production

Reduced coal output is being attributed to the knock on effects of Cyclone Debbie earlier this year.

Production Overburden removal for the quarter ended 30 June 2017 was 1.8% lower than the previous quarter. Coal production for the quarter was 3055 000 t, 3.2% lower than the previous quarter. Metallurgical coal production of 2040 000 t was 10.1% lower than the previous quarter and steaming coal production of 1015 000 t was 14.4% higher than the previous quarter. The overall decrease in production is primarily due to the impact of Cyclone Debbie on the rail network which had a flow on impact on mine production. For the 12 months to 30 June 2017, metallurgical coal production increased by 12.5% to 8227 000 t and steaming coal production increased by 16.5% to 3801000 t. Development There was no significant development activity during the quarter. Exploration There was no significant exploration activity during the quarter.

Bengala

Production Wesfarmers’ share of coal production for the quarter was 959 000 t, 25.5% above the previous quarter as the operations progressed through a productive area of the mine sequence. For the 12 months to 30 June 2017, Wesfarmers’ share of coal production increased by 1.6% to 3437000 t. Development There was no significant development activity during the quarter. Exploration There was no significant exploration activity during the quarter.
