World Coal,

Anglo American yesterday reported that its metallurgical coal production had increased by 33% in 2Q18 to 5.3 million t, as a result of strong performance at the Moranbah and Grosvenor mines in Queensland, Australia.

Full year production guidance for metallurgical coal remains unchanged however at 20 – 22 million t.

Thermal coal export production fell by 1% compared with a year earlier to 7.2 million t – this was attributed to the Khewzela and Goedehoop mines in South Africa ramping down in areas transitioning to closure and the Mafube mine continuing to transition into a new pit.

Mark Cutifani, Chief Executive of Anglo American, said: “We have delivered another strong performance, with copper and metallurgical coal in particular driving a 6% increase in production. This reflects our consistent and relentless focus on driving efficiency and productivity from our existing world class asset base.”
