Whitehaven Coal records 2017 coal reserves

Whitehaven Coal Limited has updated its managed coal resources and coal reserves under the JORC Code 2012.

Whitehaven Coal Limited has updated its managed coal resources and coal reserves under the JORC Code 2012. Total coal resources have decreased by 45 million t from 4017 million t in August 2016 to 3982 million t in August 2017.

Coal reserves decreased by 8 million t to 974 million t and Marketable Reserves for the Whitehaven Group decreased by 22 million t to 862 million t from August 2016 coal resources and reserves statement. Most of the decrease in reserves was due to depletion from mining during the year.

Key changes from the previous (August 2016) Coal Resources and Coal Reserves Statement are as follows:

  • Open cut coal reserves at Maules Creek decreased y 10 million t to 500 million t, due to mining depletion. Marketable Reserves at the mine decreased by 20 million t to 440 million t due to minor adjustments to yield calculations.
  • Coal Reserves at Narrabri increased by 2 million t 218 million t despite mining depletion of 7 million t during the year.
  • Coal Reserves at Tarrawonga increased by 2 million t and Coal Reserves declines by a combined 2 million t at Rocglen and Werris Creek due to mining depletion since the last statement in August 2016.
  • Coal Resources and Resreves for active mining areas are as at the 31st of March 2017. Prooduction for the quarter ended 30 June 2017 is detailed in Whitehaven’s June 2017 Quarterly Report.
