More longwalls in operation at JSW mines

At the Knurów-Szczyglowice mine, in the Szczyglowice Section, longwall XII has been put into operation. Moreover, the Borynia-Zofiówka mine in the Zofiówka Section is scheduled to commission longwall N-1A in seam 416/3 in a few days time. The combined resources of the two longwalls amount to nearly 900 000 t of coking coal.

Longwall XII in seam 404/4, commissioned in the Szczyglowice Section, is 160 m long and up to 2.5 m high, with a strike of more than 2 km. According to plans, its mining is expected to conclude next November. Its coal reserves are 712 000 t.

The longwall uses a modern JOY 7LS20 shearer, which runs on a PSJZR - 850 conveyor, and the protection is provided by 92 sections of powered supports manufactured at Jastrzebskie Zaklady Remontowe (JSW). In early August, longwall N-1a in seam 416/3 is scheduled to be put into operation in the Zofiówka Section. Its strike is more than 360 m, its length is 93 m, and the longwall stands out with its thickness ranging from 2.7 to 3.3 m. The recoverable reserves of coking coal amount to 130 000 t.

The N-1a longwall will be equipped with a state-of-the-art JOY 7LS22 LWS shearer and a new longwall system manufactured by Jastrzebskie Zaklady Remontowe, including JZR 17/43 POz1 WII and JZR 17/41 POz WII powered support sections, PSJZR - 850 face conveyor, and AZIS 1200 bottom conveyor.

“The commissioning of new longwalls at JSW mines is in line with the Technical and Economic Plan adopted for this year. At all new longwalls, we are implementing solutions prepared as part of the Efficient Mine initiative, which is part of the Strategic Transformation Plan. The solutions introduced are aimed at increasing productivity and, consequently, higher output," stresses Adam Rozmus, JSW SA's Vice-President for Technical and Operational Matters.
