Peabody has granted two of the Advanced Energy for Life - Clean Coal Awards to Essar Power Gujarat. The awards represent a strong endorsement of Essar’s environment credentials. The presentation to the company was made at the recently concluded Power Gen 2015 Conference at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

The awards were for the lowest level of Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) emission in the coal fired power plants of India, and for the lowest Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) emission amongst all coal fired power plants in the country.

“We are very happy to receive the prestigious Peabody awards, which is a validation of our commitment of running a thermal power plant in the most environment friendly way possible. Our Salaya plant’s emission levels compare with the some of the best power plants in the United States of America, especially on the NOx levels” said Mr Ramesh Kumar, Managing Director, Essar Power Gujarat Limited.

This marked the first time Peabody had presented awards in India. The award criteria are stringent and a specialist team based out of the United States analyses the data collected. The statistics of the emission level achieved by EPGL was presented by Mr. Jacob A Williams, Vice President, Global Energy Analytics, Peabody Energy.
