Glencore Xstrata has been awarded membership of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), a leading benchmark for investors who integrate sustainability considerations into their portfolios.
Produced by S&P Dow Jones Indices and RobecoSAM, the DJSI tracks stock performance of the world’s leading companies in terms of economic, environmental and social criteria. Each year, 3000 publicly traded companies, including 800 in emerging markets, are invited to report on their sustainability practices. Of these, the DJSI 2013/14 includes 333 components across 24 industry groups.
“We are pleased to announce [our] membership of the DJSI, a significant achievement for a newly merged group,” commented Ivan Glasenberg, CEO of Glencore Xstrata in the company’s 2012 Sustainability Report. “This award recognises what we have accomplished to date and encourages us to continue to create value for all our stakeholders.”
