Two Japanese companies join globalCOAL

Two Japanese companies, Itochu Singapore and Shikoku Electric Power, have joined globalCOAL.
Shikoku Electric Power (YONDEN) is a Japanese utility that provides electricity to the four prefectures of Shikoku. YONDEN owns two coal-fired power plants: the Tachibana-wan power plant, which has a capacity of 70 MW; and the Saijo power plant, with a 40.6 MW capacity.
Itochu Singapore is part of ITOCHU Corp., which operates in a variety of markets such as coal, iron ore and non-ferrous metal. Itochu began trading coal in 2013 and is currently expanding in Asia. In the last fiscal year, Itochu traded 22 million t of coal.

Given that the Japanese are amongst the world’s biggest consumers of seaborne thermal coal, we especially value their participation in the globalCOAL marketplace.”
