Wison-Shell coal gasification plant commences operation
Wison Engineering Services announced that the Shell-Wison hybrid gasification demonstration plant has successfully commenced operations in Nanjing. This marks the start of the demonstration and application phase of the new Shell-Wison hybrid coal gasification technology.
The new technology was developed using experience from Shell’s coal and residue gasification technologies, and offers a more compact design based on water quench technology. The successful operation of the demonstration plant, engineered by Wison Engineering Ltd, will help to boost the development of China’s coal-to-chemical industry.
The coal gasification technology allows processing of a wide range of feedstocks, offering the advantages of being reliable, economical, efficient and environmentally friendly in operation, and consequently suitable for large-scale projects.
Liu Haijun, vice president of Wison Engineering, said: “It is our great pleasure to cooperate with Shell and to successfully demonstrate hybrid coal gasification technology. The successful start-up of the demonstration project is attributed to the joint effort of both parties, which fully demonstrates Shell’s profound expertise in coal gasification and energy technologies, as well as Wison Engineering’s accumulated technological capabilities in the coal-to-chemicals sector and its experience in engineering design”.
