World Coal,
West Cumbria Mining (WCM) is aware of the extensive press coverage regarding the recent unanimous planning approval by Cumbria Country Council for the Woodhouse colliery.
The WCM team would like to thank all of those who have supported the project to date, including the local parish, town and borough councils, who have been unwavering in their wholehearted backing. The company has also seen unprecedented levels of support from local people, businesses and suppliers, and will continue to ensure its policy of open and honest engagement continues throughout the development of this exciting project. However, the company will not be drawn to comment upon sensationalised or unfounded and non-evidence-based commentaries in the press and media.
To provide further insight, WCM is sharing a copy of the text which its CEO Mark Kirkbride presented verbally to the Development Control and Regulation Committee of Cumbria County Council on 19 March 2019, as the developer spokesperson. The company believes this speech clearly sets out the commitments and real evidence supporting the project for a new source of steelmaking coal in the UK.
The full speech can be read here.
