EIA release Week 1 2015 US coal production

The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) has released its production estimate for the US coal industry for the week ending 3 January.

According to the EIA estimates, the US produced about 17.6 million short t – 3.7% higher than the week before and 2.2% higher than the same period last year.

Mines east of the Mississippi produced 7.2 million short t, while those on the west of the river produced 10.4 million short t.

Year-to-date, US coal mines has produced 7.6 million short t – 0.2% lower that the comparable year-to-date production in 2014.

The first week of 2015 also saw 103 435 railcars loaded at US coal mines, up from 103 107 in Week 1 on 2014.
