Yancoal joins World Coal Association

World Coal,

One of Australia's largest coal producers, Yancoal Australia Ltd has become the newest member of the World Coal Association (WCA), the only body acting globally on behalf of the coal industry.

Founded in 2004, Yancoal explores, develops, produces and markets metallurgical and thermal coal in Australia.

Welcoming the company into membership, Chief Executive of the World Coal Association Benjamin Sporton said: “Yancoal’s decision to become a member of the WCA represents an important milestone for the global coal industry. The company is strategically placed and plays an important role in exporting both thermal and metallurgical coal to important markets in Asia and around the world. As the only organisation working on behalf of the global coal industry, it is important that our membership reflects the length and breadth of the industry. We look forward to working with Yancoal and all our members to tackle the challenges facing the industry today.”

In September last year, Yancoal purchased Rio Tinto’s Coal & Allied operations and established its position as one of the leading coal producers in Australia. The company currently employs more than 5000 people.

Chief Executive Officer of Yancoal Reinhold Schmidt said: “As Australia’s largest pure-play coal producer, we continue to play a key role in helping shape the future of our industry and are pleased to become a member of the World Coal Association.”

Yancoal is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange.
