Bankrupt coal miner, Patriot Coal, has issued WARN notices to over 1000 workers at its Kanawha County coal facilities, according to local media reports, in accordance with the terms of agreement to sell the majority of its assets to Blackhawk Mining.
WARN notices are issued to provide workers with 60 days advanced warning of any plant closures or mass layoffs. However, the company said that is expected the majority of employees to be offered employment with Blackhawk, if the transaction is completed.
Patriot’s entered chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time in May and announced the agreement with Blackhawk the following month in June.
