Stanmore Coal has appointed Stewart Butel as Chairman, effective as of 1 February 2018.
Stanmore’s current Chairman Neville Sneddon informed shareholders at the 2017 AGM that he would be leaving in 2018. Butel was appointed to the board in September, which has allowed an orderly transition between the two.
In a recent ASX release, Stanmore indicated its appreciation of Sneddon’s leadership and guidance throughout the highs and lows of the coal sector since he was appointed to the board in October 2009, and wished him all the best in the future. The company indicated he was instrumental in the Issac Plains mine and Isaac Plains east project acquisition.
Butel joins Stanmore with more than 40 years of experience in operational management and board roles in the resources industry in New South Souths, Queensland and Western Australia. He joined Wesfarmers in 2000 as Managing Director of the Curragh mine, and was Managing Director of Wesfarmers resources between 2006 and 2016. He was appointed to the board of Gladstone Ports in October 2017. He is a past director of the Duet group and is an immediate past President of Queensland Resources council.
