Mercury emission control technology for coal plant

Midwest Energy Emissions Corporation (ME2C) has announced that its mercury emissions control technology has been selected by a large coal-power cooperative in the US.

The company estimates that this multi-year supply contract will generate approximately US$ 2 million annually, starting in early 2015, and with initial system installation revenues this year of US$ 2.4 million.

EPA emissions standards

The US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Mercury and Air Toxic Standards (MATS) requires that coal and oil fired power plants in the US larger than 25 MW remove approximately 90% of mercury from their emissions, effective from 16^th April 2015, with limited extensions granted for compliance in April 2016.

ME2C uses patented technology that has been shown to achieve mercury removal levels compliant with MATS at a significantly lower cost and with less operational impact than other methods.
