In an effort to expand its non-coal revenue sources, Adaro Energy has made a bid to operate a 2 x 1000 MW coal-fired power plant in Banten, Indonesia. The plant is called PLTU Jawa 5 but no specification of cost has been mentioned.
Garibaldi Thohir, President Director at Adaro Energy, said the project as “promising” since it is of equivalent size to the company’s planned coal-fired power plant project in Batang, Central Java. The coal requirements for the plant were projected to be about 8 million to 10 million tpy.
Garibaldi said: “One power plant with a capacity of two 1000 MW needs at least 200 million to 250 million t for 25 yr. Nowadays, not many coal miners have coal reserves of more than 250 million.”
