Coal to remain key in Australian power sector

World Coal,
Coal is to remain the dominant power source over the next decade, according to a report from BMI Research, as policy changes hit growth in renewable generation.
“Repealing the carbon tax in 2014 will have a positive impact on the growth of thermal technologies, such as coal and gas,” said the research firm. “Coal, in particular, will show strong growth over the forecast period.”
Since coming to power in September 2013, the Liberal-National coalition has taken several measures to scale back or repeal emissions reduction and green energy policies, hitting investor confidence in the sector and leading BMI Research to downgrade its outlook to 2024.
