A large-scale expansion in Cambodia’s power generation capacity is forecast for coming years, according to a new report from BMI Research.

“The major players in Asian power supply are clamouring to invest in Cambodia,” the research company said in its Cambodia Power Report, “with the result that a huge capacity expansion can be expected from about 2015 as hydro-, gas- and coal-based schemes are introduced.”

BMI Research forecasts average annual growth of around 6.6% between 2015 and 2024 as power consumption rises to 9.6 TWh. The country is also expected to export power to neighboughing countries, such as Vietnam and Thailand.
